Jean Louis Ernest Meissonier (1815-1891)
Jean-Louis Meissonier was an artist known for his highly refined draughtsmanship. The wealthy and socially elite strove to acquire his small but very detailed historic genre scenes; for example Innocents and Card Sharpers. He also had considerable academic status and was the first ever artist to receive France's highest national honour La Grand Croix du Légion d'Honneur.
