Merthyr Tydfil, photograph
Photograph showing unemployed miners standing under adverts on side of house in Merthyr Tydfil in 1937. In 1936 Helen Muspratt Dunman visited the Soviet Union and photographed the peasants and farmers as she travelled down the Volga. On her return she became a member of the Communist Party and continued her documentary photography in 1937 when she visited the Rhondda Valley in south Wales capturing the unemployed miners in their local communities.
