Terrence Higgins Trust was established in 1982, and was the first charity in the UK set up to respond to HIV/AIDS. Initially named Terry Higgins Trust, it was named after Terry Higgins who had been born in Pembrokeshire in 1945, and died on 4 July 1982 in London. He was one of the first people in the UK to die from the AIDS virus.
