Village Market

BOUDIN, Louis Eugène (Artist)

Short dashes of paint convey the activity of a busy market. Areas of bare paper show through where Boudin rushed to depict the momentary impression. A contrast to his modern beach scenes, this painting conveys a traditional rural community. Towards the end of the nineteenth century many artists spent time in remote areas of Brittany and Normandy, as a type of artistic tourism.

Mae'r dafnau byrion o baent yn cyfleu prysurdeb y farchnad. Mae'r darnau moel yn dangos lle'r oedd Boudin wedi brysio er mwyn creu'r argraff o'r foment arbennig. Yn wahanol i'w olygfeydd modern o'r traeth, mae'r paentiad hwn yn dangos cymuned wledig draddodiadol. Tua diwedd y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg, roedd llu o artistiaid yn treulio'u hamser yng nghefn gwlad Llydaw a Normandi fel ymwelwyr artistig.
