Teapot

Weesp (fl.1759-1770)
Gerverot, Louis-Victor

Teapot, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a flat base, globular body, up-turned spout with moulded leaf decoration and mouth-like opening, scroll handle with thumbpiece, circular, slightly domed cover with applied pear finial; decorated in polychrome enamels, on one side with two exotic birds, one with an orange body, the other with a yellow body, orange wings and a purple tail on a branch with a garland of flowers in gilt in both beaks, opposite an exotic bird with a yellow body, orange tail and purple/black wings, swooping downwards, perching in a tree, rocks and plants below, border of gilt lines and entwined purple festoons and four large green bows, purple and gilt decoration to handle and spout; cover decorated with a matching gilt border with entwined purple festoons and bows around rim.
