Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Goblet, lead glass, conical foot, plain stem with mixed twist, comprising an opaque ribbon spiralling with clear threads, thistle-shaped bowl, wheel-engraved below the lip with a band of leaves and flowerheads, containing traces of gilding, and with the diamond-engraved inscription 'Honour & Honesty / Sr Thos Stepney for Ever'.
This glass is engraved beneath the rim with the inscription 'Honour & Honesty / Sr Thos Stepney for Ever'. Sir Thomas Stepney, 5th baronet, married the heiress of the Vaughans of Llanelli in 1692 and the family became prominent in Carmarthenshire. The inscription probably refers to the unsuccessful attempt by Sir Thomas Stepney (1729-1772), 7th baronet, to win the Carmarthen constituency.
