Davies, Fred (Last of the coracle makers of the Severn.)
Shrewsbury type (Lower Severn); straight sides, rounded bow & stern; framework of sawn ash laths (9 longitudinal and 11 latitudinal), tacked rather than interlaced; pair of crossed laths tacked on top; with 2 additional strengthening laths at front for feet; ash plank seat with 3 pairs of supports; gunwhale made of 3 overlapping ash laths; cover of calico impregnated with pitch & tar mixture; nylon rope carrying loop on seat; plastic loop on front central seat support.
Coracle much used by poachers as well.
