S.S. MELROSE ABBEY, voyage book

Handwritten voyage book about S.S. MELROSE ABBEY from 1906 - 1918. There are loose notes inside book. Navy blue cover with brown suede spine. Imprinted in gold on spine is 'MELROSE ABBEY'.

S.S. MELROSE ABBEY (1) (1211 tons). Built by Thomas Turnbull and Son, Whitby in 1877 for Pyman Bros, Cardiff. In 1897 the ship was transferred to the Melrose Abbey Steamship Co. Ltd. (Pyman, Watson and Company), Cardiff. In 1907 ownership of ship was transferred to Melrose Abbey Steamship Co. (1907) Ltd (Jones and Pritchard) Cardiff. On 31 July 1909 the MELROSE ABBEY was wrecked on Les Fourches, off Penmarch, on passage from Arcachon to Barry with pitwood. Adeiladwyd y llong hon ym 1877 gan Thomas Turnbull & Son, Whitby, ar gyfer y Brodyr Pyman, Caerdydd. Ym 1907, cafodd ei gwerthu i Frederick Jones o Gaerdydd fel llong gyntaf yr Abbey Line enwog. Fe'i llongddrylliwyd ger arfordir Llydaw ym 1909, ond achubwyd pop aelod o'r criw.

S.S. MELROSE ABBEY (2) (1457 tons). Built 1898, and owned by F Jones 1915-18. Sold.
