Handbag

Ivory coloured clasped handbag used by Ivy May Walker (née Leslie) who emigrated from Jamaica to Port Talbot in 1961. Born in St Andrew, Jamaica, she later married Gerald Fitz Walker (also of Jamaica) in 1967. They lived in Enfield Street, Port Talbot, where they raised eight children.

Bag has a decorative strip of the same material which extends a little over half-way across the lower front section. This strip is decorated with a pointed oval shape made from white pearlescent plastic. This is held in place at either side with a copper alloy split pin. The upper part of the bag is gathered into a plastic-covered metal edging via 4 pleats. The clasp is of white metal, and has a decorative element of white semi translucent plastic at the ends. The handle (made from same material as the bag itself) is attached to the rear metal edging of the bag via white metal fastenings. The inside of the bag is lined with white synthetic fabric. There is a small rectagular interior pocket (11.8 x 6cm), covered in same white synthetic fabric and seemingly reinforced with a piece of card.
