Criccieth Castle
WILLIAMS, Christopher (Son of Evan Williams. At first he studied medicine, but at 19 decided to be an artist. Studied at Neath with F.J.Kerr and then at South Kensington & the Royal Academy schools, where he was awarded the Landseer scholarship. He first exhibited at the R.A. in 1902 with "Paolo and Francesca". In 1906 he exhibited "The Remorse of Soul" & "Atalanta" in 1908 "Spring", in 1910 "Margam Orangery", "Dryslwyn Castle", "Snowdonia" * "Ceridwen" besides numerous portraits of notable Welshman.)
Perched on a rocky outcrop high above Tremadog Bay, Criccieth Castle is dominated by the twin-towered gatehouse built by Llywelyn ab Iorwerth ('the Great'). The castle was extended by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd ('the Last'), and later remodelled by Edward I and Edward II. Williams shows the castle within the tranquil setting of a summer day.
