Teapot and cover
Teapot, creamy-yellow coloured creamware, flat base, globular body, inset flanged lip-rim, curving spout moulded with an impressed leaf pattern, scrolled loop handle with raised thumb-spur and moulded with an impressed leaf pattern, round very slightly domed cover, a ball-shaped finial to the centre of the cover, a pierced steam hole to the centre of the finial; transfer-printed in black with to one side of the body a half-length portrait of John Wesley in a preaching pose, to either side of the portrait are scrolling banners and foliage with the inscription "JOHN WESLEY M.A. FELLOW OF / LINCOLN COLLEGE OXFORD" printed on the banners, below the portrait is printed the inscription "Green. Liverpool", to the other side of the body is printed the inscription "Let your / Conversation be / as becometh / the Gospel of / CHRIST" within an elaborate cartouche of scrolls and foliage containing two small panels with biblical scenes and to the top of the cartouche two hymn books, one entitled "WATTS'S HYMNS", the cover printed with the winged heads of three angels.
