S.S. GRAIGDDU, glass negative
¾ port bow view of S.S. GRAIGDDU, Cardiff Docks, c.1948.
The Graigddu, seen here at Cardiff in 1948, was built at Sunderland in 1941 as the Empire Mariott. This 5,970 gross ton steamer was managed by Graig from 1944 until 1946; the company then bought her and gave her her new name, meaning 'black rock'. Pickersgill & Sons Ltd., Sunderland, and managed by Stanhope Steamship Co. 1944 Management transferred to Idwal Williams & Co., Cardiff. 1946 Sold to Idwal Williams & Co., and renamed GRAIGDDU. 1952 sold to New Dholera Steamship Ltd., Bombay, and renamed JAYSHOOR.
