Post-Medieval pewter tankard
A complete handle and hinged lid from a tankard. The top of the lid is inscribed with a maker's mark.
The touch mark on the top of the lid handle attachment is of the upper body and head of a winged angel above a rectangular mark bearing the raised black latter initials 'ITTO' although are quite unclear. The angel touchmark appears in many different versions on European pewter, later examples often with hte words 'Fein Zinn' meaning Fine Pewter and sometimes the maker's name.
