Zig Zag Dish
Large circular dish, high-fired earthenware, flat base with small inset centre with turned spiral, outside this a series of concentric incised lines, the shallow curved profile rising to a straight angled rim, the grey body overlaid with an abraded off-white slip inlaid on top with a series of six bold dark parallel zigzags.
Wason's strong, sculptural forms have been compared to those of Hans Coper, a comparison enriched by the fact that Wason now works on Coper’s original wheel. Wason leaves his work unglazed and treats the surfaces with metal oxides, some gathered from disused mine workings near his home.
