S.S. DIONI, glass negative
¾ Port bow view of S.S. DIONI and waterman's boat, c.1936.
(4181gt) : Built 1906 by Northumberland Shipbuilding Co., Howden, as ASGARD for Midgard Deutsche Seeverkehrs AG,Nordenham, Germany. Seized at Odessa in 1914, renamed ALMA and joined the Russian transport fleet. She was returned to her German owners in 1918 regaining her original name, ASGARD, but was siezed by the British Government as war reparations in 1919 and offered to the Greek Government in 1921, renamed VASSILIA SOFIA, and LESVOS in 1923. 1928 - Sold to G. F. Andreadis of Chios and renamed DIONI. She was driven aground at Sandy Haven Bay in November 1940, refloated in the December, and broken up by T.W.Ward at Milford Haven in January 1941.
