Walking stick
Everyday objects become works of art in the hands of a wood carver. Craftspeople can see designs in the way wood has grown, and use their carving skills to bring them to life. In the past, carved sticks were given to people as a token of appreciation. Some sticks reflect particular interests or a particular activity. Stickmaking was a hobby craft rather than a means of earning a living.
Unpeeled blackthorn stick with handle carved in shape of a gooses's head; leather thong passes through 2 holes in stem; brass ferrule with aluminium tip, attached with pin.
