Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
The drama of this scene is heightened by the darkness of a night scene. From 1936 Piper painted all around Wales, finding inspiration in land, buildings and industrial views. Ebbw Vale has a long industrial history, manufacturing iron, steel and coal. The steelworks were still operating at the time of this painting, but were closed and demolished in 1970.
