Photograph of 'Sydney Wilfred Mortimer Coxwain of the St Davids Lifeboat at the age of 18½ Oct 14th 1910'.
Sydney Wilfred Mortimer lived in Minevia House, Goat Street, St Davids, and achieved great fame, being responsible for the epic rescue of the crew of the St Davids Lifeboat 'Gem' when it was wrecked off the Bitches off Ramsey Sound, October 1910, with the loss of three of her crew. The Mortimer family were said to be as much at home at sea as they were on their own hearth.
