Jug

Höchst Porcelain Factory

Jug, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a rounded slightly spreading waisted foot-rim with a gadrooned edge, flaring cylindrical body, rounded shoulder, short cylindrical lip-rim, reeding around the lower body,a band of beading and raised moulded swags around the shoulder, curving beak spout with foliate moulding to the underside, loop handle modelled in the form of a snake; the exterior body of the jug covered with a blue ground over which has been painted an elaborate gilt decoration creating a mesh-like pattern with blue dots showing through, the moulded areas painted gilt apart from the moulded swags which have been painted a very pale blue-yellow colour, to either side of the body are reserved two white oval panels painted in polychrome enamels with groups of fruit, the panels enclosed by borders of gilt stylized flower heads, gilt bands around the foot-rim, lower body, shoulder and lip-rim, the spout and handle painted in gilt.
