LE SIDANER, Henri Eugène (1862 - 1939)
Le Sidaner was born in the French colony of Mauritius and brought up in Dunkirk. He trained in Paris and in 1898 visited Bruges, where he adopted Impressionism as a working technique. His townscapes, generally devoid of human activity, have a Symbolist air of melancholy. This work depicts the harbour at Heyst, a Belgian town north of Zeebrugge.
