Cup and saucer

St Petersburg Imperial Porcelain Factory

Cup, hard-paste porcelain, short cylindrical foot-rim, rounded ogee body, double intertwined handle with foliate moulding at the terminals; the exterior body covered with a plum-coloured ground against which is reserved to the front of the body a view of cavalry fighting, a gilt line around the lip-rim, the handle picked out in gilt. Saucer, hard-paste porcelain, short cylindrical foot-rim and curving ogee sides; the interior apart from the centre of the well covered with a plum-coloured ground against which is reserved to either side of the well two views of cavalry fighting, the centre of the well left white and decorated in gilt with a floral motif, gilt lines around the edge of the well and rhe edge of the rim.
