IRENE (sail), glass negative
Port broadside view of Ketch IRENE at Bute West Dock, Cardiff, about 1936.
The 98 gross ton wooden ketch lrene was built at Bridgwater in 1907 and was often employed in the carriage of bricks and earthenware products from the Somerset port. She continued to trade until 1960. Extensively re-built in the 1980s, her home port is now Bristol, from which she regularly undertakes charter work.
