Christening font made of slate. It is is octagonal is shape, and the eight sides represents the ‘eighth day’ in Christianity. This christening font was used to hold holy water during christening ceremonies at St. Gabriel’s Church, Cwm y Glo, between the late 19th century/early 20th century and 2013.

During a christening service a baby or child will be baptised with water and welcomed into the community of the local church or chapel. The holy water (water that has been blessed by a member of the clergy or a religious figure) used during a christening is traditionally stored in a font or cup.

St. Gabriel’s Church, Cwm y Glo is believed to have been opened during the late 19th century / early 20th century, and was part of the Church in Wales. St Gabriel’s Church was part of the Diocese of Bangor, the Deanery of Synod Bangor, and the Parish of Bro Eryri. Due to a dwindling congregation the Church held it’s last service on the 19th September 2013, and was subsequently sold to a private buyer.
