Candlestick
Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)
Candlestick, earthenware, columnar form with wide spreading base, cylindrical shaft with raised bands around the top and bottom, and a classical vase-shaped sconce with wide flaring rim; the decoration reserved against a black enamel ground so that the red earthenware body is revealed, this then transfer-printed in black with to the shaft the figures of four winged cupids with arrows and flaming torches, border to the foot-rim of a running leaf pattern on a red ground, border to the lower shaft and neck of black dots on a red ground, an elongated egg and dart border to the upper shaft, a radiating tongue border to the base and to the rim.
