Roman iron linch pin
Iron linch-pin used to hold a wheel on an axle. This linch pin is of the most typical style often found in Britain. It has a spatulate-head with a turned-over loop at the top of the oval head. The lower part of the stem may have a slight rebate at the back, but it is not sufficiently well preserved for this to be certain.
