Roman samian vessel
Samian vessel sherds. S160 is a Southern Gaulish bowl sherd (form Curle 11) of pink ware with a smooth glossy red slip. The bowl has a low rim. S165 is a Southern Gaulish sherd of a transitional form between a bowl and a plate (Dr18/31). Pink ware with a good red gloss and a rather faint ring of rouletting. S166 is a very small example of a Southern Gaulish cup sherd (Dr33) with a convex profile. Rather thin pink ware with a matt red gloss. S167 is very similar ware to S166 but is a larger cup with straight sides. S168 is a bowl sherd (form Curle 11) with a flat en barbotine decorated flange. Buff/pink ware with an orange/red gloss.

Pre stone. context: (S165-S168): at 53: in pink clay next below topsoil and occupation. Stone Phase I
