GLASLYN (painting)

Portrait of the wooden barque GLASLYN. Unsigned, undated. Framed.

The GLASLYN was a wooden barque of 763 gross tons, built in 1873 or 1876 by the Pembroke Dock Co-operative Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for Evan Jones & Co. Cardiff. Jones was a native of Afonwen, Gwynedd, and was a shipowner in Porthmadog before moving to Cardiffin 1865. By 1880 he was the owner of three substantial barques, including the Glaslyn. The Glaslyn was lost in 1865, but Jones went on to acquire steamships. The company ceased operations in 1924. Llong bren oedd y GLASLYN oedd yn pwyso 763 tunnell gros, a chafodd ei hadeiladu ym 1873 neu 1876 gan gwmni Pembroke Dock Co-operative Shipbuilding Ltd. ar gyfer Evan Jones & Co., Caerdydd. Brodor o Afonwen, Gwynedd, oedd Jones, ac roedd yn berchennog llongau ym Mhorthmadog cyn symud i Gaerdydd tua 1865. Erbyn 1880, roedd yn berchen ar dair llong sylweddol, gan gynnwys y Glaslyn. Collwyd y llong ym 1865, ond aeth Jones ymlaen i brynu llongau ager. Daeth y cwmni i ben ym 1924.
