S.S. CONSOLS, Liverpool (painting)
Ship portrait painted within a painted lifebelt and decorated with painted flowers and a flag. Painted on white glass. Held within a gilt inner frame surrounded with a green, velvet covered frame. Signed bottom right.
The Consols was built by Bartram’s of Sunderland in 1898 to the order of William Thomas, a native of Llanrhuddlad, Anglesey, who became one of the most successful Liverpool-Welsh shipowners. The vessel was lost as a result of a serious fire on board in the Gulf of Mexico in February 1912.
