Entry of the Welsh troops into Jerusalem

This work depicts the climax of the British campaign against the Turkish army in Palestine during the First World War, the capture of Jerusalem on 9 December 1917. The 53rd (Welsh) Division was one of the three British Divisions which bore the brunt of the fighting against the Turkish army, and this scene depicts their entry into the city through the Jaffa Gate. Begun in 1920, this painting was completed in 1931 for the War Memorial Committee of the National Museum of Wales.
