Roman copper alloy Light Polden brooch
Broad, almost flat side-wings are each ornamented with four longitudinal hatched bands. The side-wings have pierced disc terminals to take the axial bar. The bow tapers to a knife-edge foot. The head of the bow is decorated similarly to the side-wings, with an elongated V-shaped tongue defined by two incised lines and ornamented with cross hatching to each side of the head of the bow. On the side wings is a diagonal incised line. The large catchplate has openwork ornament and there is an incised line along the reverse side of its return.
The bow is bent right back and the catch plate is in two pieces. Heavily corroded.
