Iron Age pottery bowl / jar

Rim shed of a smalll jar or bowl with incipient bead rim. Quite hard fabric containing moderate calcite inclusions up to 2mm across. Brown/grey ot black surfaces, horizontally burnished externally, and grey core. This fabric is characteristic of middle to late Iron Age pottery in Wales. Comparable examples have been found at Sudbrook (Nash-Williams, 1939), Llanmelin (Nash-Williams, 1933) and Mynydd Bychan (Savory, 1955).
