Penderyn tramroad, photograph
Chain Horse Haulage from Penderyn Quarry. The Penderyn Tramroad originally dating from the late 18th century carried limestone and quarry stone to the Aberdare and Abernant ironworks and collieries. The rails were flat and consisted of 'L' shaped cast iron plates laid on stone steepers. The wooden trucks have flangeless wheels used with this type of track.
