Starboard broadside view of M.V. PORT CHALMERS and a small coaster, at Roath Dock, Cardiff, c.1936.
M.V. PORT CHALMERS (8535 gt). Built 1933 by Swan, Hunter at Wallsend-on-Tyne for the Commonwealth & Dominion Line (owned by Cunard - hence the cunard-esque funnel). "Commonwealth & Dominion" became the "Port Line" officially in 1937. PORT CHALMERS had the distinction of completeing two WW2 convoys across the Atlantic to Malta, including the famous Operation Pedestal in which she was the only vessel to emerge completely unscathed. She was scrapped in 1965.
