Tamping rod
Brass tamping rod (‘stampar’), for tamping gunpowder (‘powdwr du’) in blast holes. Consists of a cylindrical piece of brass, originally a solid brass rod, which has been turned between centres. A groove is formed in one end (approx.77mm in length), to accommodate the fuse while tamping.
This tamping rod belonged to Trevor Williams who worked at Maenofferen Quarry, Blaenau Ffestiniog, between circa 1935 – 1960.
