Biscuit porcelain bust of a long-haired man with a moustache in mid 17th century dress (doublet, collar and gown), on a pedestal in the form of a fluted column with a moulded spreading base. Johan de Witt (1625 - 1672) Grand Pensionary of Holland from 1653, a leader of the Republican party which excluded the House of Orange from power after 1654. Overthrown together with his brother in 1672 and lynched by the mob. After a posthumous portrait by Aert Schouman (1710 - 1792) engraved by Jacobus Houbraken.
