S.S. MUROTO, glass negative
Cardiff’s only trawling company, Neale & West, was founded as a fish merchants, business in 1885. Their first trawler was acquired in 1888 and the firm later adopted a series of distinctive Japanese names for their vessels. In this view the 340 gross ton Muroto, built at Stockton-on-Tees in 1931, is seen hurrying home to the firm's base at the bottom of the West Bute Dock, c. 1948. Neale & West ceased trading in 1956.
