Jug, coffee, and cover

Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)

Jug, earthenware, standing on a circular rounded foot-rim, bulbous body with six convex panels sloping inwards at the shoulder before rising upwards at the neck and flaring slightly at the rim, waved rim, a band of moulded anthemions to the shoulder and the exterior lip-rim, elongated beak spout with a band of moulded anthemions to the exterior lip, a perforated panel across the spout at the point where it joins the main body, high loop handle with raised thumb spur and moulded lines, moulding to the lower terminal, domed cover with a raised edge to fit the mouth of the jug, elongated at one end where it fits over the spout and with an indentation at the other end to fit around the handle, a band of moulded anthemions to the rim, a central finial in the shape of a flower head with radiating petals moulded where the finial joins onto the cover; transfer-printed in flow blue with to the body the 'Whampoa' pattern, a collection of oriental pagodas in the foreground linked by bridges and fences, a spreading tree to one side with further pagodas on islands in the distance, the moulded anthemion border at the shoulder issuing frond-like leaves and branches, border to the exterior and interior lip-rim, exterior and interior spout and to the rim of the cover of elaborate scrolls, flower heads and foliage on a scale-like ground, a scale-like border to the handle, the top of the finial coloured in blue.
