Jug

Haynes, Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1802 - 1810)

Earthenware, pearl-glazed jug, wheel-thrown, baluster form with straight neck, plain lip, strap handle. Printed in overglaze black with two Chinoiserie scenes: to left of lip a boy fishing in a pond with a long-handled net while a taller figure holds an umbrella over him, small house centre right, urn with flowers right, small buiding in trees far left: to right of lip 'The Precarious Chinaman'; a fence in front of a large urn of flowers, group of figures to right side of fence one holding an opened parasol, tree at far right, flowers in urns to either side of scene. Dense repeating pattern around neck of diapers containing ogees with swags of husks, pendant sprigs around lower edge; inside neck further pattern of diapers with demi-lunettes. Pattern of flowers, ovals etc to back of handle.
