Smock
White linen smocked shirt of huckaback linen. Made for Robert Trought for his wedding at Devizes, Wiltshire, in the 1850s. He later moved to Wales in the 1860s and worked as a coal trimmer at Penarth Docks.
Body lined with plain linen. Large collar, with revers buttoned back and decorated with white linen embroidery (mostly feather stitch). Shoulder yoke similarly embroidered. Front of shirt has heart and stylized fern designs embroidered in white. Sleeves have smocking at top and cuffs. Two button fastening at cuffs.
