H.M.S. PEGASUS, glass negative

HMS PEGASUS (around 7500gt) : Built 1914 by Blyth Shipbuilding Co., Blyth, Northumberland and commissioned as HMS ARK ROYAL. She was the world’s first ship to be designed and built as an aircraft carrier, later used as a depot ship for seaplanes. 1934 – Renamed HMS PEGASUS. She was de-commissioned in February 1944. 1946 – Sold to R.C.Ellerman for conversion to a merchant vessel, and renamed ANITA I (managed by Compania de Navigation Ellanita, Panama). She was seized in June 1949 to repay debts and sold for scrap. She was broken up in October 1950.
