Thomas, Gwilym (1931 scholarship to Swansea School of Art 1935-38 Royal College of Art, London - studied under William Staite Murray 1937-38 taught evening classes for the LCC at Putney School of Art 1939 taught in boys' clubs in London's East End 1946 part-time teaching, Bromley School of Art (to 1949) and Maidstone School of Art 1951 part-time teaching, Hammersmith College of Art 1956 moved to Orpington, Kent; built pottery studio with 24 cu. ft. gas kiln for reduced firings 1970 exhibition at the Commonwealth Institute, London 1973 full-time Head of Ceramics, Hammersmith College of Art 1975 retired from full-time teaching Author of 'Step to Step Guide to Pottery' (Hamlyn))

Vase, stoneware, of baluster form, standing on an unglazed foot rim, spreading towards shoulders, narrowing at neck with wide, flared lip. Covered with a matt grey glaze, painted in oxides with leaping figures and ears of corn and grasses.
