Carthen
Red, yellow, white, orange carthen. Warp fringe. Side selfedge. An example of the work of W. E. Morris, Esgair Moel woollen mill, Welsh Folk Museum.
Pattern based on a carthen in the collection from the Lampeter district, Cardiganshire (29.210.1). Large check design consisting of blue and red bands 3¼" broad intersecting to give rectangles approx 10" x 8½" on red background; within this pattern there are geometrical designs in white and golden brown. On the reverse side, the background is in golden brown. No fringe.
