Morris, W.E. (Demonstrating weaver at the Welsh Folk Museum (Esgair Moel woollen mill). He joined the Museum's staff in 1952 after working at various mills in west Wales, and as works manager at Meirion Mills, Dinas Mawddwy.)
Red, yellow, white, orange carthen. Warp fringe. Side selfedge. An example of the work of the late W. E. Morris, Esgair Moel woollen mill, Welsh Folk Museum.
Pattern based on a carthen in the collection from the Lampeter district, Cardiganshire (29.210.1). Large check design consisting of blue and red bands 3¼" broad intersecting to give rectangles approx 10" x 8½" on red background; within this pattern there are geometrical designs in white and golden brown. On the reverse side, the background is in golden brown. No fringe.
