Rugby cap made of black velvet (6 sections joined together); seams covered with applied narrow metal thread braid; wide metal thread braid applied to lower edge (only stitched along upper edge) and edge of peak; peak reinforced with card interlining; capital letters in raised metal thread embroidery at centre front of cap; year 1901-02 inscribed using metal braid applied to peak; wooden domed shape covered in metal purl at centre of crown to which a metal purl tassle is attached; cap is lined with light blue/silver silk twill fabric (silk warps / cotton wefts), constructed from 6 sections joined together; lower edge of cap reinforced with interlining of stiffened loosely woven cellulosic fabric; all metal components are gold-coloured.
