Figure of Christ. Some remains of paint upon lips, face and torso.
Rood figure of the crucified Christ, 1300s. It is from Mochdre Church, mid Wales.
This is a crucified Christ, or rood (an Old English word for cross) figure from Mochdre church in mid-Wales. It is one of only four rood figures to survive from pre-Reformation Britain. This figure has been reconstructed. A replica was also made and can be seen at St Teilo’s Church in St Fagans National Museum of History. The replica has been painted as it would have looked 650 years ago.
