A range of pollen from late Carboniferous upland plants, from the Canadian maritimes. Photo by Prof. T. Dimitrova (Sofia).
We are collaborating with colleagues in the Bulgaria Academy of Sciences, Cape Breton University and Aberystwyth University in developing the study of fossil pollen and spores as a means of documenting changes in Late Carboniferous vegetation in both lowland and upland habitats. We are currently focussing on the Forest of Dean, and Cape Breton.
Studies to date have covered the coalfields of South Wales, Sydney (Cape Breton) and Dobrudzha (Bulgaria).
