The animal wall outside the entrance to Cardiff Castle was designed by the architect, William Burges, in 1866 and built in 1890. The wall was moved to the edge of Bute Park in the 1920s where it still stands today. From 1866 Burges was employed by the 3rd Marquess of Bute to redesign and refurbish Cardiff Castle in the style of the Victorian Gothic Revival.
