Hi there David,

To follow up your enquiry - our curator, Mark Etheridge notes that the painting is of the Northfield which was built in 1901, so it can’t be the one that was involved in the 1858 rescue. The Northfield you refer to must have been an earlier vessel. He suggests that you try a local library or museum to look through the Lloyds Register of Ships to find more on the ships involved.

Northfield rescuing brig "Hebe"

I am trying to find the referenced painting of an at sea rescue in 1858. Do you have advice on it?

My great grandfather led the rescue.
