When the well-known Union Castle Line withdrew its sailings to South Africa in 1977, there was still a need to operate a service to the island of St. Helenain theSouth Atlantic. This gap was filled by Curnow Shipping of Porthleven,Cornwall, who established a successor service in 1978. In 1990, the company started operating their new vessel, the second St Helena, from the port of Cardiff. Built at Aberdeen in 1990, she is seen here arriving at Cardiff with local tugs in attendance.
