Keeping It Local – New exhibition at National Waterfront Museum Swansea looks at impact of buying local

‘Buying local’ can mean different things to different people. What does it mean for the general public?

Running from 2 April – 18 September 2022, “Keeping It Local” is a brand-new exhibition at the National Waterfront Musuem in Swansea looking at the impact buying local has on manufacturers and producers, and how money spent locally benefits  communities.

 

But how do people define local?

 

The exhibition will explore the definition of “local”, raising questions around carbon footprints of food grown locally or imported from other countries.

Discover some of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales’ amazing food delivery vehicles from the past, including the Howard’s Travelling Stores Van, which was the first motorised mobile shop in Wales.

Jacqueline Roach, Exhibitions and Programmes Officer at the National Waterfront Museum, said:

 

“We are very excited to have some incredibly interesting and varied vehicles from the Amgueddfa Cymru - collection on display here at the National Waterfront Museum as part of the exhibition. Food and produce have been at the heart of community life for centuries. Come and discover how ‘keeping it local’ has and does benefit our communities in many ways.”

 

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. Together, it is home to the nation’s art, history, heritage, and science collections, which will continue to grow so that they can be used and enjoyed by both present and future generations.

One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.
